Dr. Ken Chmelka
Education: Kansas State University
I had the privilege of growing up around a variety of pets. The fondness encouraged me to become a veterinarian. I received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1983. Following graduation, I worked at a small animal and equine veterinary hospital in Upper Hutt, New Zealand before coming to Colorado Springs in 1985. I was soon practicing at Academy Acres Veterinary Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian then quickly moved onto being a partial owner in taking care of cats, ferrets, dogs, rabbits, and reptiles. In March 2000, Dr. Schrepel and I joined the partnership to open Aspen View Veterinary Hospital. I enjoy internal medicine and surgery, as well as working with exotic reptile species.
My wife and I share our home with our grand-dog Meeko, our son’s chocolate lab. When not working with animals I enjoy watching Colorado Avalanche hockey and college football.

Education: Colorado State University
After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Kansas in 1981 I spent 7 years as a practicing Certified Public Accountant working first in Kansas City, Missouri, and then in Durango, Colorado. In 1989 I returned to school at Colorado State University where I completed a second Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Science followed by a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine Degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1994. School was followed by six years working in veterinary practices in Wenatchee, Washington, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. In March 2000, Dr. Chmelka and I joined a partnership and founded Aspen View Veterinary Hospital, P.C.
In addition to my commitment to my many canine and feline patients, I also have a fondness for caring for rabbits. I take a special interest in pain management, and in strengthening the human-animal bond. My current professional memberships include the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, the Colorado Springs Area Veterinary Society, and the Cornell Feline Health Center.
I share my life with veterinarian, Dr. Laurie Clauss. Together we love and attempt to inspire three dazzling adult children as they pursue their passions in universities throughout the country. We also share our home with a Pitbull mix and Westie mix rescues, and several cats (a number that is ever-changing as we both work with rescue groups and the Humane Society). My wife and I are vegetarians and enjoy exploring new culinary ideas, and travel whenever we get the chance.

I have always felt a bond with animals, so becoming a veterinarian was an easy choice to make at the ripe old age of 6 years old! I never could see myself doing anything else and have been living my dream of helping animals ever since. I am a native of Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 2006 and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2010. After graduation, I moved to Colorado Springs and immediately fell in love with my now permanent home. My first nine years as a veterinarian were spent working with Banfield and North Academy Animal Hospital. I am now thrilled to be a member of such a wonderful team at Aspen View Veterinary Hospital. I am passionate about continuing education and progressing my knowledge to better help my patients. I was the Continuing Education Director for the Colorado Springs Area Veterinary Society from 2015-2017.
My professional interests include surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, dermatology, and I am a fear-free certified professional. In my off time, I enjoy spending time with my husband Jordan, experimenting with new recipes, running and hiking with my rescue dog Gill, and attempting to catch fish. I look forward to partnering with you to provide the best possible care for your furry friend!

I was born in California and grew up in Big Bear Lake, California. I currently have 3 Brittanys who are my everything, 2 cats, and one guinea pig. Ever since I was a young girl I wanted to work with animals, originally I wanted to be a veterinarian. I moved to Colorado Springs in 2017 because I was accepted to CSU Fort Collins and I was planning to attend their vet program. I realized that I no longer wanted to be a vet but still wanted to work with animals. I decided to go to school to become a veterinary technician. I graduated from the Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology in October of 2021 and became certified in December of 2021 after passing my VTNE.
Client Service Representative
I worked at Aspen View 7 years ago as an assistant, but took some time off and had two kids with my husband, Bryan. I returned to the practice in 2016 to continue my love for working in the veterinary field. My husband and I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in our spare time, and I am also a Girl Scout leader and spend a lot of time on the weekends attending events and helping my daughter earn badges. As a family, we love cats and currently have four- two energetic kittens and two seniors. I am excited to meet with you and your pets!
Client Service RepresentativeEducation: Washington State University
Being a Wisconsin native I have lived in Alaska, Washington State, Louisiana and Michigan before settling in Colorado in 1994. As a young girl, I rescued a cat and her kittens that were living in a hollowed-out tree. That’s when I decided to dedicate my life to helping animals. I received my Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from Washington State University. I have worked in the veterinary field for over 25 years. Over the years, whether working with rescues, clients, or the community, I have taken in numerous special needs cats and strays (dogs and cats) who didn’t have a home to go to. My Heeler mix keeps me active after work wanting to play ball or go on walks. I enjoy gardening, camping, hiking, and traveling.
Education: Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology
I was born and raised in Anchorage Alaska. Growing up there, I love the outdoors and decided I would someday work with animals. Once in collage at UAA for two years I realized what I wanted was to become a veterinary technician. This prompted my move to Denver Colorado in 2014 to attend Bel-Rea. Graduating in 2016 I started working as a veterinary technician in Denver and moved to Colorado Springs in 2022 to join Aspen View. When I’m not working, I enjoy painting, photography, hockey, dirt biking, video games and naps with my three cats -Moose, Bug and Mor Rioghain.
My furry bundles of joy and I are originally from Illinois. Out there, I was pursuing a career in psychology, until I experienced the loss of my first dog, Dakota, to nasal lymphoma. That turn of events and heartbreak changed everything, and I decided I desperately needed to be able to do more than just love them. So I went to one of the largest animal shelters near me, and asked the director to take me on, put me with the sick ones, and teach me everything. Lucky for me, she accepted. And that’s how I ended up on this field that has never been just a job to me. Since then, I’ve worked as a veterinary technician at small clinics and large hospitals with some of the best people, and been taught some of the best medical skills and knowledge.
In 2013, I packed up my dog Wolf, and 2 Persians, Booger and Mustache, and moved us all to Colorado for a new adventure. And I was very happy to find Aspen View in January 2022. Animals are chicken soup for my soul, and senior pets are my heart.
My name is Allona. I’m original from Billings, Montana, and moved to Colorado when I was 11. I realized when I was in 7th grade that I wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after a technician came into my class and explained the career field. I instantly knew it was what I wanted to do. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my dog, Gemma, and my two best friends. I look forward to furthering my career and meeting your animals!
